Animal or Vegetable?
New SQUARE jPEG, Barbara.
It's spring now, and still very cold. March has been colder than February. Weird year. I've been paying more attention to my houseplants than anything else lately. Sometimes I think I'd rather be a plant than an animal. Maybe I like the passivity, or the concept of being rooted in one spot rather than having to move all the time. If I were to be an animal I'd have a hard time choosing between a cat or a dog. Stan and I had this discussion last night. He said he'd rather be an insect so that he could have several short lives. I told him that having several short lives would be bad because the memory of the previous lives would be too close. I'd rather not want to remember my previous lives. I also like the thought of asexual reproduction. I heard a strict vegetarian talking about why it's not OK to eat animals and he stated that plants have no feelings. Somehow I don't believe this at all. People thought such of animals a few hundred years ago, too, and look how wrong they were.

I would rather be a cat than a dog. Dogs are always controlled by people, if they don't let themselves be controlled they are often taken to the vet and executed. No one expect a cat to be controlled though, cats have much more freedom.

i would choose to be a rock. i could be passive, never moving, stable and steady, and best of all, my existence would not depend fully on the care of another person. maybe if i were lucky, i would be a rock in a stream, so time could wear off little bits of me slowly and wash me out to sea.

I think no matter what form you choose to take, there will always be problems to deal with. Even a rock has to deal with someone throwing them in a pit somewhere to be broken up for use as cement. I think I would like to be the wind. Always moving, but never caught. :o)

you know...i wonder if that person has ever tried yelilng at a plant, ignoring it, and seen what happens. Obviously plants do have feeling, be they linier or otherwise, for they definitly need nurtuing in order to survive and flourish.
anyhoo....damn, would defintly have to be a cat of some kind....;) meow!
