Pug Halloween & More
Like I said, they're bad shots. High bandwidth recommended.
I don't know the name of this little black pug, but he/she was dressed with a jack o'lantern tam o'shanter on hall o'ween.
I don't know the fawn pug on the left, but tam o'shanter pug is sniffing "Earl." Earl went as an angel, in contrast to Lucifer Sam going as a little devil himself. He had a halo (not shown) suspended from his collar. Earl has the most interesting coat. He's black, with a fawn undercoat. Never seen a pug like that before.
Pink Ballerina Pug might be a relative of the Girl Pugs...I think they have the same human mom. Not sure who the fawn pug on the left is, but it's a funny shot. And you can hardly tell, but in the lower left corner is a little black head. That's Lucifer Sam.
Pug Sniff Fest with Tam o'Shanter Pug, some other Halloweeny Fawn, and one of the Girl Pugs (either Sprite or Sprout, not sure which as they're identical) dressed as a Holstein.
More Pug Sniff Fest with tam o'shanterand either Sprite or Sprout, the other half of the adorable set of Girl Pugs (pink ballerina) and her sister, either Sprout or Sprite, behind her in the Holstein outfit.
This fawn pug won the "bobbing for weenies" contest. He/she really snarffed them down. I suspect he/she is not pure pug because of the size, limb length, and longer snout. I was positive Lucifer Sam was going to be a shoe-in for that contest because of the way he hoovers his food, but once he saw the weenies in water (it was only about a half inch of water), it freaked him out and he started barking at them. The two black pugs in back is the tam o'shanter pug (right) and pink ballerina Sprout/Sprite (left).
From right to left: Buddy, (his human mom, Stacey, who also went as a vampire, organizes these events), ballerina pug, unidentified bandana pug (I swear, my mother-in-law has cloth napkins just like that!!! wait is that mutton on those napkins?), and Sprite/Sprout peering out in the very left.
Sprite or Sprout. Damn, doesn't she just have the CUTEST little face? Sorry about the pug butt.
Looking down from above on a very pumpkin pug.
Buddy the Vampire does some weird tail-flexing trick.
I'd say this is the ballerina's corner. Somehow, ballet and pugs...just doesn't seem to fit. I think the blue ballerina pug won "best dressed." My personal favorite for the best dressed was one that I actually couldn't get a picture of, a little puppy named Monty. Monty went as a construction worker...fluorescent orange vest complete with a little toolbelt and little tools. I thought it was quite creative. There was another pug puppy that went as Vegas-era Elvis. It was surreal, especially the fake Elvis hair. Actually, it was disturbing. But maybe that's because I find Elvis disturbing.
One of the Girl Pugs (Sprout/Sprite), Earl on the right with a little glimpse of his suspended halo, and my thighs. Unidentified pug butt in upper right.
The two Girl Pugs surround Stan (his legs on right, my foot on bottom left).
And last but not least, Lucifer Sam as...Lucifer! The red jacket was actually one of Plato's but we managed to fit him in it. We took it off shortly afterwards as it heated him up too much. The devil horns are supposed to wrap around the ears somehow, but since LS's are too floppy, we attached the horns to his collar. Since he was a bit embarrassed of this picture, he wanted me to put up some others that showed him in better light without his chin being cut off. (unidentified human arm with Sprite/Sprout upper right)
This one was from our trip this fall at Stan's mom's house. The day or so before we had gone to Arches and stopped by a Moab rock store. I bought some mixed stone beads to use in jewelry. The guy behind the counter reminded me of Sawyer from Lost. When I told him that I was going to use them to make jewelry, he said, "You can't do that, these are party beads!" So I shot a picture of LS wearing the party beads before I cut the strings.
Profile of a Pug wearing Party Beads.
And since Plato ALWAYS gets jealous when the pug is getting attention, I just had to include him wearing party beads too.
Despite that he's 9 now, and getting grey, he still has such a cute Boston face.

Very cute. I just had time to look at them pretty quick since I'm at work. I'll look and read more later. I agree, that one dog definitely is not all pug. But mutts and mixes are OK too.

They allow pug mixes at these gatherings too. In fact, they even suggested we bring Plato because the Bostons this past Saturday were so damn cute and played so well with the pugs, but we don't think Plato would get along with strange dogs all that well. My memory is cloudy on this now...perhaps the pug pictured that I said won the weenie bobbin' contest is actually the one that won the "Musical Squares" contest (similar to Musical Chairs). Anyway, there were two that were a bit larger than the others and probably not purebred that won two contests.

Oh yeah, and a "Puggle" (not pictured...pug-beagle cross) won the "tricks" contest. So 3 pug mixes won contests. A purebred won the costume contest. Kinda makes you think pugs aren't too good with tricks! If old Hieronymus would've been there, we'd have done the "Bagel" trick with him (he'd chase his tail when you'd say the word "Bagel!") Plato has a trick called "Go get the hair tie!" For some odd reason, Plato took a liking to Stan's ponytail holder. He'd try to pull it out of Stan's hair. So what we did is put it on cue, so that he only does it when we say "Go get the hair tie!" What a nutty dog.

Heh...forgot to add to that above post. One time we tricked him with Tim whose hair was short. Tim told him to "go get the hair tie!" but there was no tie to be found. Plato sniffed around the back of Tim's neck. It was pretty funny.

Oh yeah, and Plato is very cute too. Nice necklace. I need to go to Moab someday - I've seen so many pictures and heard how great it is. I know I'd love it.

The city of Moab itself isn't all that great--I have some bad memories there...bad motel staying experience during our "honeymoon." But the best part is Arches National Park, which is down the road from Moab. Even if the bad motel experience was wiped from my memory, I would still find Moab a bit uncomfortable, visually. I mean it's GREAT to visit, but that whole region is so...RED. It's red like New England in the fall is GREY and summer in Wisconsin is GREEN. I start to get effected by so much red, my eyes almost feel like they hurt. It's like being on Mars. I do have to wonder if living in a region like that would have a bad psychological effect on people. But yeah, everyone should see Moab and firstmost Arches.

meant to say "New England in the winter." D'oh!

A friend of ours, now passed away, used to live in Moab. Misty, his daughter, told us that they tax outsiders outragously. Locals don't have to pay it. I couldn't imagine living someplace all one color all season. White is ok if it is fresh and sparkly and thick on everything. But not all season! Is Moab red all year? Icky. Cute pics. I would like a small dog, like a pug, but no, we have a german shepard pup who is going to get HUGE. Hopefully by then she will not be so hyper!! Doubtful, but one can hope. I like cats, too. We'll have to wait on that. I'm afraid what Rocksy would do to a kitty (unintentionally, that is). Like the beads!

Regardless of the general color, I think I'd love it. I'd probably get one of those New York/Paris/Moab bumper stickers.

Dawn, I've never been there in the winter, so I don't know if they get much snowfall. But the summer is red and the fall is red. There is not a lot of vegetation on the mountains...it's mostly red sandstone, so there's not a lot of green to counteract the red. Literally, it's like Mars. Imagine Mars wth earth's atmosphere. There was some movie made a few years ago--some space fiction parody whose title escapes me at the moment--that was filmed in an area somewhere in Utah called the Goblins or something. It's not that red looking, but the stone shapes are rather unusual. I prefer the pinky corals in Bryce canyon, and the multi-colored pink/cream/red/purple mountain formations near Grand Junction (Colorado National Monument). I could easily live around there.

OK ... it's now later and I stopped back in to work after working out just to look at the photos better, without attracting negative attention and tsking. It's so obvious you're not working when people see cute dog photos on the screen. The photos were great - you're too hard on yourself. Besides, you had good subjects - how bad could they turn out? My very favorite was the vampire with the unwinding tale. That was LOL funny. Favorite custome of course was the pink ballarina - I like frilly and I like pink. Best facial expression was the very last photo - of Plato. (Sorry LS.)

OMG! Don't know if I should laugh to or feel sorry for these dogs, but I guess they're not aware of how ridiculous they look ;) On the other hand, you look really great.

Dawn, I figured the tax on my "party beads" was ~ 7.75%, which isn't that much different than Colorado. Maybe the outsiders they tax is through a lodging tax? Offtopic I know, but everyone thinks Wisconsin is such a high tax state, but sales tax is 5.5%, and even lower in some counties. We like tourists here! Greenthumb, thanks for the photo compliment. Actually, right out of the camera they really do look bad, but because they're digital and I cropped them down (lots of spare photopixels on the cutting room floor) I was able to get better compositions. Nico, dogs sometimes look goofy on their own. I think they have a sense of humour, and if they could understand silly human holidays, they'd enjoy the concept of dressing up too. And thank you!

5.5 isn't bad at all. We have no sales tax in MT, but it costs an arm, leg and liver to license a vehicle here. ND was cheap! I think that locals in Moab don't have to pay the sales tax, or not as much. They might have a city sales tax. Holy cow, my text keeps disappearing and reapearing. Must have a ghost! But is it your site that is haunted or my computer? I think it is mine. Weird.

I think it's my site, maybe the CSS I use, does something weird with browsers. I've had that happen to me too.

The trash can is a photographers best friend.

Chantz left a game running and it made my computer all wonky. I restarted and the ghost left.
