Here's the cactus Stan mentioned in his comment in the post below--he wanted me to post it. It's smaller than a baseball and bigger than a golfball. It was cute.
The camera is amazing because I can see so much more in the photo than we could at the crater. There was a path with a rail and we couldn't get too close to this plant.
When we saw it I thought it might be an Escobaria, but in this photo it looks more like some kind of Mammillaria. I'm very amateur at identification, so my guesses are only guesses. I'm going to say this little dumpling might be Mammillaria heyderi?

The question mark is for my own uncertainty, so - alright - I'll stick my neck out. This cactus must be a Mammillaria heyderi.
